Resumé

Vanessa Caswill is an emerging filmmaker with a theatrical background, having studied drama at the University of Birmingham. Her work reflects that background with a clear emphasis on performance, but married to a strong focus on detailed art direction and shot construction. Her style has been recognised as mature, innovative and original.

Vanessa recently won a 4Talent award for her latest short film 'Pudding Bowl', marking her as one of the hottest young talents of 2008. ‘Pudding Bowl’ film has been selected and screened at numerous international film festivals as well as earning her a Best Visual Film award and a Film Of The Night award at the Limelight Film and Arts Awards 2008 and Best Film in the Foreign Category at ‘Corto Di Donne’ Film Festival. She has recently been signed with Annex Films and is currently working for them as a promo and commercial Director. Vanessa has just completed ‘The Fishdance Kid’, one of this year’s Digital Shorts for Screen South, in association with the UK Film Council.

Since completing ‘Pudding Bowl’ which screened at Cannes Film Festival and Clermont – Ferrand Short Film Festival as well as competing at many others, Vanessa was invited to attend the Reykjavik International film Festival Talent Campus and a short Directing course run by the Script Factory as part of the Digital Shorts scheme. In 2007 Vanessa also shot an inspirational fragrance video with Creamer and Lloyd for Unilever and made a super8 short last years straight8 competition.

Whilst in Australia two years ago she wrote and directed a 35mm short starring Sam Worthington (the lead role in James Cameron’s current project, Avatar – released May 2009) and shot by award winning cinematographer Marc Windon. She worked as Art Director on Australian commercials. Before venturing into film she co-created two successful plays for the Edinburgh and Sydney Fringe.

Other projects in the pipeline include a short film ‘The Beekeeper’s Wife’ and feature film ‘Le Ciel’. She is also involved in an ongoing community film project Film For Humanity and was recently a co-facilitator for its ‘Beyond Brick Lane’ project.
